Pearl District

E-mail
The Pearl District is a distinctly Portland neighborhood that is bustling from early morning until late in the night. Here you'll find more than 70 home furnishing stores and dozens of restaurants including coffee shops, bakeries and cuisine from Japanese to Peruvian, Thai to French and so much more.

The shopping isn't too shabby either. High-end retailers (think Anthropologie, Lucy, Adidas, Patagonia and REI) mix with specialty boutiques. While you're here, take note of the industrial buildings that once housed car repair shops and warehouses but have been smartly renovated for new occupants while preserving this neighborhood's unique charm. A visit to Powell's Bookstore is a must. Located on W. Burnside at the intersection of downtown and the Pearl, it's a book lover's paradise with 3,500 sections and an amazing collection of out-of-print and hard-to-find books.

Don't miss the First Thursday Celebration when galleries keep their doors open late and independent artists set up shop on the sidewalks and closed-off streets for as many as 30,000 guests. The Pearl hosts some of the city's most unique festivals, including Art in the Pearl, Twilight Criterium Cycling Race and AIDSWalk.
