![]() Spend your day at the RiverPlace Marina – it's a quick walk from downtown or an even easier ride on the Streetcar. Here you'll find shopping, hotels and wine tasting. You can admire the boats dockside while eating at one of the many restaurants that populate this area or you can hop in and get paddling. Portland River Company has kayaking classes, guided trips and rentals. Keep walking north and you'll hit Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The green lawn stretches 22 city blocks and is home to concerts year-round. There are numerous festivals but a few not to miss include the Waterfront Blues Festival (the largest of its kind west of the Mississippi River) every 4th of July weekend, the Oregon Brewers Festival July 28-31, 2011, and The Bite of Oregon August 12-14, 2011. If you're looking for a bird's-eye-view of the city, take a ride on the city's newest mass transit vehicle, the Portland Aerial Tram. The tram ascends 500 feet from the South Waterfront to Oregon Health & Science University's main campus on Marquam Hill. Along the way (and on a clear day) you can see the city horizon, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood, and the bridges along the Willamette River. |
