Nob Hill |

Nob Hill is quickly accessible by car, bus or streetcar from downtown. Also, it's close to the International Rose Test Garden, Oregon Zoo, Portland Children's Museum, Portland Japanese Garden and World Forestry Center Discovery Museum—all in Washington Park—as well as Forest Park (to get there, head west on Thurman Street from N.W. 23rd to Leif Erickson Dr.). West from Nob Hill is the historic French Renaissance Pittock Mansion. Built from 1909 to 1914 by Henry Pittock, founder of the Pulitzer-prize winning newspaper The Oregonian, this 23-room estate is surrounded by walking trails and lush gardens that overlook the entire city. |

The blocks surrounding Northwest 23rd and 21st avenues, from Burnside to Vaughn streets, were once mostly residential with historic Victorian mansions and narrow streets. Today, it's a charming community of sophisticated shops, upscale restaurants, cafes and lively bars.
